Destinations

Listed on this page are some popular cruising destinations for the boaters in Wisconsin's Green Bay and the Bays de Noc of Michigan.
Luckily, this scenic area includes a wide range of attractions, from rustic camping and tiny fishing villages to chic resort communities.

Door County outine

Washington Island: This popular island is best seen by bike. Rent one at the ferry office in Detroit Harbor, and bike up to town, and be sure to visit the Norwegian Stavkirke near the airport. Some shopping is available at the ferry dock, but Shipyard Island is a best bet for dinner.
Rock Island: A remote extension of Washington Island, Rock Island is the best kept secret in the Bay. The dock and boathouse, courtesy Chester Thordarson and sons, make it a legitimate harbor, as well as worthwhile sight to see.

Sister Bay: Posh Sister Bay is the largest of the resort towns on the Door. Al Johnson's Swedish Restaurant and Yacht Works, Inc. are mainstays in town.
Ephraim: This town is best-known for its proximity to Peninsula State Park and Horseshoe Island, as well as Wilson's Ice Cream Shop. Check out the somewhat pricey but very enjoyable para-sailing trips while you're there.
Fish Creek: This tiny village is yourbest bet for a fish-boil, but check out the shops in town for some great ice cream and a great pizza.
Egg Harbor: A beautiful hamlet nestled atop a steep bluff, Egg Harbor is a scenic retreat for the traveler. Flowers are everywhere in the serene park that dominates the hillside. The town has many shops and restaurants, including the best ice cream shop on the Wisconsin shoreline.
Sturgeon Bay: The Door's center, politically and economically. This shipping town, home to yacht builder Palmer Johnson, is as close to the big city as this area can muster. It has a definite emphasis on boating, perfect for the cruising enthusiast.
Menominee, MI: Basically this is the only Michigan attraction in the true Green Bay. The totally man-made marina is close to downtown, and it offers the best service around. For a good ice cream cone, check out the Downtown Sandwich Shop. Oh yeah. They have sandwiches, too.
Escanaba, MI: The most beautiful harbor you'll see on the Upper Lakes, Escanaba's well protected harbor, in the heart of huge Ludington Park is well removed from the city center, but a taxi to nearby Hereford and Hops is well worth the fare.
