The Rinker 209 Captiva
BrownCow's Boat
Well, you wondered about it and here it is. The boat that has won
Powerboat-of-the-Year honors twice from Powerboat Magazine, the Rinker
209 Captiva.
This one has the optional Mercruiser 350 Magnum, which pumps out 250 galloping
ponies. It has an Alpha One drive swinging a blueprinted 14x21 Turbo stainless prop.
Top speed has been measured by GPS at 59.4MPH, but the hull could go
higher without so many heavy creature comforts.

It handles well on the flat or in the rough, cruises comfortably at 37 MPH, has
good range and delivers a quiet ride, given the engine choice. She will
not come airborne without a madman at the helm, corners superlatively, and
pulls skiers with a vengeance. This copy was a dealer demo, but has 150+ hours
since then. (Two short Upper Peninsula summers.)
Aftermarket equipment includes minor stereo upgrades, a VHF radio, fishfinder, and
custom soundproofing. Options on the boat include: MOMO wheel, Gaffrig gauges, full canvas,
AM/FM Stereo Cassette, cooler, and Shoreland'r trailer.
In addition, we built up the trailing edge using epoxy resin, then shaved it to a nice
sharp angle. This mod slightly improved top end, and greatly reduced the spray
off the transom. Also, the transducer for the fishfinder was moved inboard to reduce spray, drag, and the number of holes in the hull.
Some of the great places to visit.
